Tramadol Directions?

Patients take Tramadol by mouth every four to six hours. It can be swallowed with or without food. Tramadol cuts down on the pain perception in the brain, and reduces the pain signals that are sent along the nerves.

Tramadol Side Effects?

Tramadol does not usually cause side effects, but can. Let your doctor know if you experience dizziness, drowsiness, upset stomach, diarrhea, headache, blurred vision, vomiting.

Let your doctor know right away if you experience redness, swelling, and itching of the face, fast heartbeat, numbness or tingling of the hands and feet, difficulty breathing, changes in urination or seizures.

If you suspect an overdose, call the local poison control center as soon as possible. Overdose symptoms can include slowed heartbeat, cold and clammy skin, drowsiness, low body temperature, slowed breathing, dizziness, lightheadedness, seizures, deep sleep, and loss of consciousness.

Tramadol Warnings?

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any ingredients of Tramadol, or if you are taking any other medications such as quinidine; pain relievers; medications for depression; carbamazepine (Tegretol); MAO inhibitors [phenelzine (Nardil) or tranylcypromine (Parnate)]; sleeping pills; tranquilizers; and vitamins. Tell him or her if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease, a history of seizures, or a history of alcohol or drug abuse.

Women who are pregnant, likely to become pregnant, or breastfeeding should tell their doctor before taking Tramadol. Women who get pregnant while using this drug should be let their doctor know. Any surgeons, including dental surgeons, should be aware that you are on Tramadol.

This medication may cause drowsiness. Use caution if you have to drive or operate machinery. Combining Tramadol with alcohol can cause even more drowsiness.

Tramadol Drug Interactions?

You should not use Tramadol if you are on cyclobenzaprine or any prescriptions for depression or other emotional or mood disorders. Your doctor should be aware of any medications you are taking. You may need extra monitoring if you have a history of seizures, are taking Bupropion, or narcotic analgesics. Tell your physician if you have any drug allergies or other medical conditions, or if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding. If you have any questions, ask your pharmacist or doctor.

Tramadol Missed Dose?

Do not try to make up missed doses of Tramadol. If you accidentally skip a dose, just resume your normal dosing schedule.

Tramadol Storage?

Keep Tramadol out of sunlight and away from moisture, such as is found in the bathroom. Dispose of all medication that's not needed or which has expired.

Anything Else I Should Know About Tramadol?

Follow your doctor's instructions when using Tramadol. It can be habit forming. Never take it for longer or more often than directed, or in larger doses.
